Proper fit of the device requires the surgeon to measure both the sternal thickness and width and pick the correct implant based on the patient’s anatomy. Only with proper implant selection can adequate fixation be achieved. Some patients, based on the sternal width, intercostal distance or sternal thickness will not be candidates for the Sternal Talon® and alternative closure methods should be used. The surgeon should not attempt to modify the Sternal Talon® in any way.
